The opposition People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for the delayed release of the roadmap for upcoming Local Council elections.
The Deputy President of the party, Michael Phillip Lulume Bayiga, speaking to the media at the party headquarters along Katonga Road, said the public is anxious about the elections, yet the EC has remained silent on the process.
Bayiga also challenged the EC to amend the rules to allow younger eligible voters who do not yet possess a National Identity Card to register and vote.
He further questioned why the EC lacks independence, alleging that it consistently operates under the directives of President Yoweri Museveni.
The criticism comes after media reports that President Museveni had instructed the Ministry of Finance to release UShs 56.9 billion to fund the LC1, LCII, and Women Council elections, which are expected to take place in April.
