The Government of Uganda is set to implement strategies to reduce unemployment ahead of the 4th Annual National Labor Convention and Expo 2026, scheduled for April 15–16 at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
Themed “Unlocking the Potential of Uganda’s Youth Labour Force: Advancing Productivity and Expanding Opportunities for Decent Work,” the convention forms part of the lead-up activities to International Labor Day.
The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Labour, Employment, and Industrial Relations, Hon. Esther Davinia-Anyakun, during a press conference at the Uganda Media Center.
She highlighted the critical role of young Ugandans under 30, who make up 75% of the country’s population, in driving economic growth and development.
Anyakun emphasized that Uganda faces significant challenges, including a high informal economy rate exceeding 80%, youth unemployment at 13.3%, and widespread underemployment, which require decisive strategies.
The event will feature Her Excellency Vice President Jessica Alupo as the chief guest, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing youth employment and expanding opportunities for productive work.
