Prince Kassim Nakibinge, the Titular Head of Muslims in Uganda, has urged the government and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Lino Anguzu to push the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abbas Byakagaba to thoroughly investigate and prosecute those responsible for the recent election-related killings in Butambala District.
Nakibinge expressed deep concern that despite reports of seven people losing their lives, no one has been held accountable.
He questioned why only political figures, such as Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, have faced charges, while the perpetrators of the killings remain free.
He called on authorities to meticulously examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths, including tracing ammunition and recording statements from security personnel who were present.
Nakibinge stressed that justice must be delivered to the victims and their families, warning that failure to act would undermine public confidence in the rule of law.
Emphasizing fairness and accountability, Nakibinge insisted that electoral violence should never go unpunished.
In addition, he congratulated politicians who won in the recent elections and offered encouragement to those who lost.
He praised Ugandans for maintaining relative peace during the electoral period, urging winners to serve all citizens fairly, regardless of political affiliation.
For those who lost, he encouraged resilience, hope, and active participation in national development initiatives.
He also appealed to anyone who feels unfairly treated to remain calm and pursue peaceful avenues for addressing grievances.
