National Resistance Movement candidate Agnes Kirabo Nantongo has petitioned the High Court of Uganda in Luweero, seeking to overturn the election of Brenda Nabukenya of the National Unity Platform as Luweero District Woman Member of Parliament.
The petition follows the January 15, 2026 election, in which Luweero District Returning Officer Moses Kiconco declared Nabukenya the winner on January 17.
According to the Electoral Commission of Uganda, Nabukenya secured 67,399 votes, defeating Kirabo, who garnered 55,697 votes, a margin of 11,703 votes. Several other candidates also contested in the race.
However, Kirabo disputes these results. In her petition, she claims that certified declaration forms obtained from the Electoral Commission present a different outcome.
She alleges that she actually received 67,883 votes, while Nabukenya polled 66,864 votes.
Based on these figures, Kirabo argues that she won the election by a margin of 1,019 votes.
Through her lawyers at Crane Associated Advocates, Kirabo contends that the declaration of Nabukenya as the winner was erroneous and unlawful.
She is asking the court to rule that the election was conducted in non-compliance with the law, nullify the results, and instead declare her the duly elected Luweero District Woman Member of Parliament. She is also seeking legal costs.
As of Monday evening, neither Nabukenya nor the Electoral Commission had filed responses to the petition.
