Police in the Kampala Metropolitan area have arrested 75 suspects following a three-day crackdown targeting crime hotspots and illegal motorcycle activities, authorities have confirmed.
The coordinated operations, conducted between March 15 and 17, covered several high-risk areas including Mutungo Zone 4, Nasuti, parts of Mbuya I Parish, Kireku zones, Bweyogerere Central Zone, and Wabigalo Parish.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the raids targeted locations suspected of harbouring individuals linked to robbery, burglary, theft, and narcotics trade.
Authorities said the suspects face a range of charges, including possession of narcotic substances and public nuisance.
Police also reported recovering several exhibits during the operations, although details of the items have not yet been disclosed.
In Mbuya I Parish, officers impounded seven motorcycles from a garage suspected of tampering with and reconditioning motorcycle parts.
Among the seized motorcycles were two without number plates, two with concealed plates, and three believed to bear fake registration numbers.
Police said the motorcycles are undergoing verification as investigations continue into possible links to criminal activity.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Masooli Cell, Kasangati, a suspected thief was killed by a mob after allegedly attempting to raid poultry farms while armed with a panga.
Police confirmed that the scene has been documented and investigations into the mob action are underway.
All arrested suspects remain in custody pending screening and prosecution.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police, said the operations are part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and curb crime across the city and surrounding areas.
