Kampala Archdiocese Calls for Stronger Religious Values at Radio Sapientia Launch of Annual Catechism Quiz ‘Akabbinkano ka Katekiisimu’

The Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Kampala, Rev. Fr. Vincent Rogers Mukasa Kabuye, has emphasized the urgent need to strengthen religious values in society as a way of addressing the rising levels of crime.

Fr. Kabuye made the remarks during the launch of the annual religious catechism quiz, Akabbinkano Kakatikiisimu, held on March 15, 2026, at St. Kizito Kibiri Parish.

The competition is organized by Radio Sapientia 94.4 FM, a Catholic radio station operating under the Uganda Episcopal Conference at Nsambya.

The quiz is designed to test participants’ knowledge of Christian doctrine, Scripture, and tradition while promoting spiritual growth through a fun and competitive format.

The competition is open to three categories: primary school pupils, secondary school students, and adults.

The launch event began with Holy Mass led by Fr. Kabuye and was attended by hundreds of participants, including clergy, religious leaders, and lay faithful.

In his homily, he expressed concern that many people today lack access to the truth and warned that religious slander is increasingly fueling division and hatred within society.

He commended Radio Sapientia for initiating the catechism competition, noting that in a world marked by spiritual confusion, such initiatives help deepen understanding of the Christian faith and proclaim the message of Christ.

He encouraged believers to actively participate in the quiz and support the radio station’s efforts in faith formation.

The Managing Director of Radio Sapientia, Dr. Fr. Joseph Mark Lubula, said the program contributes to both spiritual and social wellbeing under the station’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

He also noted that the program continues to receive strong support from the Ugandan Catholic bishops.

Prizes from last year’s competition highlighted the program’s impact, with winners in the children’s and secondary school categories receiving land titles, while the adult category winner walked away with a brand-new motorcycle.

The Parish Priest of St. Kizito Kibiri, Simon Peter Katende, thanked Radio Sapientia for selecting his parish to host the launch.

He also praised past winners from the parish for promoting the competition locally and encouraged more parishioners to register this year with confidence in their chances of success.

The initiative has attracted strong corporate support, with Centenary Bank serving as the main sponsor and pledging continued investment in church-led activities.

One of last year’s winners, Joseph Mukisa, shared how the competition significantly improved his life, noting that the motorcycle he received as a prize boosted both his mental wellbeing and his family’s stability.

Other sponsors include St. Charles Lwanga SS Kibiri, St. John the Baptist Primary Teachers’ Institute Ggaba, and St. Cyprian High School Kyabakadde.

Registration fees for the competition are Shs 20,000 for children (primary and secondary) and Shs 30,000 for adults.

Participants can also open an account with Centenary Bank for Shs 10,000.

The competition will begin airing on Radio Sapientia starting March 30, 2026, with more participants and sponsors still welcome to join.
