The Opposition in Parliament has called on the government to present its contingency plan to shield the country from skyrocketing fuel prices stemming from the escalating conflict between Israel, the United States, and the Iran.
Opposition Chief Whip John Baptist Nambeshe warned that the ongoing instability in the Persian Gulf has already begun threatening global fuel supplies, with some countries reporting shortages and growing market anxiety.
Nambeshe also urged the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, to compel the government to explain Uganda’s level of preparedness for the potential economic impact of the Israel–U.S.–Iran conflict.
In response, Among directed that the matter be scheduled for discussion next Tuesday, when the responsible line minister will appear before Parliament to present the government’s position and outline the country’s preparedness measures.
