Crown Beverages, Reclaim Launch PET Collection Hub in Kyengera to Boost Plastic Recycling

Crown Beverages, Reclaim Launch PET Collection Hub in Kyengera

In a move aimed at protecting the environment, Crown Beverages Limited, in partnership with Reclaim, has launched a new PET collection hub in Kyengera to improve plastic waste collection and recycling.

The initiative is expected to strengthen plastic recovery systems while creating economic opportunities within local communities.

Through the partnership, more than 40 jobs have already been created, while over 860 tonnes of plastic waste have been purchased and recovered for recycling.

Speaking at the launch, Pearl Kitimbo, Brand and Communications Manager at Crown Beverages Limited, said partnerships are key to achieving meaningful impact in proper plastic collection and management.

Similarly, Rogers Anguzu, Marketing Manager at Crown Beverages Limited, noted that plastic pollution has become a growing threat in Kampala, particularly during the rainy season when plastic waste blocks drainage channels and contributes to flash floods.

He said recycling initiatives such as the new hub will help reduce environmental damage.

Meanwhile, Ambrose Yerinde, the Environment Officer at Kyengera Town Council, commended the company for the initiative, saying it will not only reduce plastic waste in the area but also create employment opportunities for youth and women working at the hub.

The Kyengera facility becomes the third PET collection hub established by Crown Beverages in partnership with Reclaim under the company’s Tweyambe Project.

Other hubs are located in Hoima and Mbale as part of efforts to expand the company’s national recycling network.
