Uganda Launches New Equipment to Boost Immunization in Underserved Area

Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng

The Government of Uganda has launched new operational equipment to strengthen immunization services in underserved communities across the country.

The equipment, procured through the Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance Equity Accelerator Fund and Health Systems Strengthening Grant III, was unveiled by Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng.

Dr. Aceng said the equipment will enable health workers to reach remote communities and reduce the number of “zero-dose” children—those who have never received a vaccine.

Through the Uganda National Expanded Programme on Immunization, the country currently vaccinates children against 14 diseases, including measles, polio, and malaria.

The newly deployed supplies include 642 motorcycles for last-mile delivery, as well as tents, sleeping bags, raincoats, backpacks, umbrellas, gumboots, and life jackets to support outreach in challenging terrain.

Dr. Aceng noted that the initiative targets 59 districts facing immunization equity challenges, including Kalangala District, Kasese District, Kotido District, and Terego District.
