The Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) has launched a nationwide crackdown on the unauthorized use of the Red Cross emblem, warning that anyone found guilty could face up to seven years in prison.
URCS National Legal Advisor Alex Luganda made the disclosure during a one-day stakeholder engagement event titled *“Conducting Humanitarian Diplomacy Campaign” organized by the society.
Luganda revealed that authorities are actively scouring the country to identify and stop illegal use of the emblem.
“On many occasions, individuals or even small medical facilities misuse the emblem, which denies people access to services provided by the Red Cross,” Luganda said.
He emphasized that the iconic Red Cross on a white background is exclusively reserved for the Uganda Red Cross Society and strictly prohibited for others to use.
Luganda urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid activities that could put them at risk of prosecution.
