Police have defended their ongoing presence at the home of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, saying the deployment is necessary for security purposes.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke told journalists on Monday that security personnel remained stationed at Kyagulanyi’s residence in Magere as part of operational measures aimed at protecting national security.
He explained that the deployment should not be interpreted as targeting the opposition leader, noting that Kyagulanyi was not facing any criminal charges at the time.
Rusoke further stated that if Kyagulanyi were to commit any offence, the police would follow established procedures by summoning him or presenting him before court.
He maintained that the current security posture around Kyagulanyi’s premises was purely preventive.
The police explanation comes amid growing public concern over the heavy security presence at the residence, particularly following the 2026 general elections.
Kyagulanyi has previously accused security forces of taking control of his home and preventing him and his family from accessing the premises.
