Prince Frederick Sunday Kateregga , the Interim Ssabalangira

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has appointed Prince Frederick Sunday Kateregga as the Interim Ssabalangira, directing him to assume leadership of the Buganda Kingdom’s Royal Clan with immediate effect.

The announcement was made by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, during the burial ceremony of the late Ssabalangira, Godfrey Musanje Kikulwe, held on 5th February 2026 in Kasawo, Mukono North, Mukono District.

Katikkiro Mayiga informed the heads of the royal lineages, locally known as ‘Abakulu b’Emituba’, the Royal Family and mourners that the Kabaka who is currently abroad, had instructed Prince Kateregga, the current Deputy Ssabalangira, to lead the Royal Clan until a substantive Ssabalangira is officially appointed.

He further revealed that the Kabaka had contributed two cows toward the burial arrangements.

Ssabalangira Godfrey Musanje Kikulwe passed away on Tuesday at the age of 76 after a long illness.

He had served in the role for 11 years and had sought medical treatment from several health facilities, including hospitals outside the country, but his condition deteriorated leading to his death.
