South Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, Stephen Mukombe

Police in the South Kyoga region are investigating the killing of Special Police Constable (SPC) Ivan Eibu and the injury of four others during a violent confrontation at Olagara Landing Site in Serere District.

The incident occurred on February 2, 2026, at around 10:00 p.m., as police attempted to arrest Bashir Etidau, a 42-year-old resident of Pokor B Village, Kamasala Parish, Kateta Sub-county, Serere District, in connection with a murder case.

According to the South Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, Stephen Mukombe, Etidau raised an alarm during the arrest attempt, attracting a hostile crowd. In the ensuing chaos, the suspect managed to escape.

Mukombe said the confrontation turned violent, leaving SPC Ivan Eibu dead and four others injured, including the Officer in Charge (OC) Surgeon, Robert Ocana, and three other police officers. The injured officers are currently receiving treatment at Serere Health Center IV.

He added that Etidau is now wanted in connection with a second suspected murder case, in addition to the earlier charges.

Following the incident, public unrest erupted, during which two motorcycles, one with registration number UP 6138 and a Bajaj, were set ablaze and burnt beyond recognition.

Mukombe described the incident as unprecedented in the region, noting, “The region has been quiet, and this is the first incident of its kind.” He appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to help restore peace and stability.

Police have so far arrested ten suspects to assist with ongoing investigations.

The body of SPC Ivan Eibu has been taken to Serere Health Center IV for a postmortem examination.
