Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi remanded to Kitalya over Terrorism

The Butambala County Member of Parliament, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi has been arraigned before the Butambala Chief Magistrates Court this afternoon and charged with Terrorism.

According to the records on the charge sheet Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi 52, a resident of Buwate Village in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, was charged with inciting Violence, attacking the Police and Electoral Commission tally center, damaging of motor vehicles and loss of lives.

State led by Deputy Director of Public Prosecution Racheal Bikhole, said between 11th and 17th January 2026 Muwanga Kivumbi and others still at large without due regard coordinated and carried out a series of violent attacks in Kibibi Town Council and Gombe Town Council in Butambala District.

They attacked Kibibi Police Station and Butambala electoral commission tally centre, caused extensive damage to sections of Butambala- Gomba road and Motor Vehicles.

The acts directly resulted into the death of Seven People.

The deceased include Nagayi Sarah, Nabukenya Isha and one Nampereza among others.

Prosecution described the alleged acts as prejudicial to national security and public safety, noting that they were carried out indiscriminately and without regard for civilian life or property. 

Appearing before the Butambala Chief Magistrate Deogratius Ssejemba on Friday 23rd  afternoon Muwanga Kivumbi refused to take plea in absence of his lawyers prompting court to delay the session upto 4.30pm.

Unfortunately his lawyers failed to appear and the magistrate recalled the court and read charges of terrorism against Muwanga Kivumbi.

He was remanded to Kitalya Maximum Security Prison until 3rd February 2026 when he will reappear for mention  as investigations are still ongoing until committal to the high court which has jurisdiction to hear his case.
