Voting in Naguru 1 and Naguru 2 parishes has been halted after election materials delivered to the area were found to be intended for a different parish within Nakawa Division, Kampala City.
Electoral officials suspended the polls indefinitely after discovering that ballot papers issued to voters contained candidates for Naguru 1, instead of those for Naguru 2 Parish.
As a result, polling stations around Naguru Remand Home, the KCCA Nakawa Division offices, and nearby areas were brought to a standstill.
The confusion has disrupted elections for the Lord Mayor, directly elected LCV councillors, and Women Councillors, all of which have been suspended in the two affected parishes.
One of the candidates, Godfrey Ruyombya, warned that the mix-up could lead to voter disenfranchisement. He described the situation as chaotic and questioned how such an error could occur, noting that each parish has a distinct identity.
Ruyombya attributed the problem to recent electoral boundary changes, which saw some polling stations shifted from Nakawa East to Nakawa West.
Of the eight parishes in the area, he said voting has proceeded smoothly in six, with Naguru 1 and Naguru 2 being the only exceptions.
Meanwhile, National Unity Platform (NUP) Lord Mayoral candidate Ronald Balimwezo cast his vote at Mutungo Zone 4 shortly before midday.
