Police, will keep peace and security in the Local govt elections

Police have assured residents of Kampala Metropolitan that security remains stable ahead of tomorrow’s local government elections, which will see voters elect a Lord Mayor, District Chairpersons, and Councilors.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Rachael Kawala said the security situation across the metropolitan area is calm and stable.

She expressed appreciation to the public for their cooperation throughout the election period and in the days following earlier polls.

Kawala confirmed that voting will take place on Thursday, January 22, 2026, and explained that joint security operations involving multiple agencies are fully in place to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

She noted that the continued deployment of security forces is focused on protecting lives and property while maintaining law and order throughout the city. According to her, authorities have put measures in place to prevent any disruptions at polling centers.

Kawala further emphasized that security agencies will not tolerate any form of lawlessness during the elections. 

She called on voters to remain calm, follow electoral guidelines, and cooperate with security personnel to ensure a peaceful and orderly voting exercise across Kampala Metropolitan.
