The Democratic Front (DF) has announced plans to challenge the outcome of last Thursday’s presidential and parliamentary elections, citing widespread irregularities.
Speaking at a press conference held today at the party headquarters in Mengo, DF President Mathias Mpuuga revealed that the party’s legal team will meet all DF flag bearers to collect evidence of alleged electoral malpractices that he says contributed to their defeat.
Mpuuga declared that the announced election results are “null and void,” adding that the party is exploring all legal avenues to seek justice.
He strongly criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for failing to use Biometric Voter Verification Kits (BVVKs), a lapse he said resulted in massive electoral malpractice and wastage of taxpayers’ money.
In the same address, Mpuuga condemned the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) for shutting down the internet during the elections.
UCC Executive Director Nyombi Thembo had justified the shutdown by citing concerns over potential violence and misinformation.
However, Mpuuga dismissed the explanation, arguing that the internet blackout caused financial losses for many Ugandans, curtailed access to vital information, and hindered independent election monitoring.
He urged affected citizens to seek legal redress, calling on them to take the matter to court in pursuit of justice.
