IRCU Calls on EAC to Support Peaceful Uganda Elections

Chairperson of IRCU and Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Samuel Kazimba Mugalu

The Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) has called on the East African Community (EAC) to support the conduct of peaceful elections in Uganda scheduled for January 15, 2026.

IRCU has also emphasized the importance of dialogue among key stakeholders, including political parties, to ensure a smooth, credible, and non-violent electoral process.

Speaking at the IRCU offices in Mengo, the Chairperson of IRCU and Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, urged all political actors and citizens to place national unity and peaceful coexistence above partisan interests.

Archbishop Kazimba noted that as faith leaders, they believe mosques and churches must remain sanctuaries of unity, justice, and harmony, especially during the election period.

He further called upon the Electoral Commission to organize free and fair elections, warning that failure to uphold transparency and credibility could fuel violence during and after the polls.
