Catholic Church concludes Jubilee Year at Diocesan level

Archbishop of Kampala His Grace Paul Ssemogerere

The Catholic Church world over has closed the Holy Jubilee Year at the Diocesan level.

Pope Francis launched the year on 24th December 2024, followed by diocesan opening of the same year on 29th December the same year.

The year is under the theme; “Pilgrims of Hope” focused on grace, reconciliation, and pilgrimage.

Today 28th December 2025 the dioceses are closing the Jubilee Year and on January 6th 2026 it will be concluded in Rome. It has coincided with the celebration of the Holy Family day that is marked on the following Sunday of Christmas.

The Archbishop of Kampala His Grace Paul Ssemogerere while leading the mass at Lubaga Cathedral today hailed the congregation for gracing the closure of the Jubilee year but most importantly preserving the family, the foundation of the church.

Archbishop Ssemogerere credited the faithful who have made pilgrimages with deep faith and devotion here and in Rome seeking forgiveness healing and renewal. Let the indulgences received by the faithful energise their life, live true Christian life that promote mercy, hope and reconciliation.

On the side of the Holy Family Day Archbishop said the family is threatened by a life lived by many as single parents, which leaves children lacking in nurturing, moral and cultural transformation.

He said Priests through their parishes must help the faithful to get holy marriages and keep the family sacred because it’s a blessing from God. This is the foundation of the church and society.
