The Bishop of Mukono Diocese, Rt. Rev. Enos Kitto Kagodo, has appealed to Ugandans to turn up in large numbers to cast their ballots in the general elections scheduled for January 15, 2026.
Bishop Kagodo made the call while presiding over the morning service at St. Philip and Andrew’s Cathedral in Mukono.
He urged voters to elect responsible leaders at all levels, warning that low voter turnout denies citizens the opportunity to choose leaders who genuinely represent their interests.
He emphasized that failure by Ugandans to participate actively in the electoral process could result in leadership choices being determined by a few, rather than reflecting the will of the majority.
The Bishop also appealed to security agencies to exercise restraint and avoid the use of excessive force against supporters of different political candidates, noting that it is the democratic right of citizens to support leaders of their choice.
Additionally, he advised the police to refrain from blocking the movements of presidential candidates, stressing that during an election period, all candidates should be allowed to freely traverse the country and campaign in every district.
