Police Urge Election Constables in Mt Moroto to Uphold Discipline and Human Rights Ahead of 2026 Polls

Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole

Police in the Mt Moroto region have urged Election Special Police Constables to maintain discipline and respect human rights as they prepare for deployment during the 2026 general elections.

The constables, who were passed out on Thursday by the Uganda Police Force, will work alongside regular police officers to secure the electoral process and manage crowds at polling stations.

A total of 1,296 election constables in the Mt Moroto region completed a 10-day training programme conducted at Moroto Municipal Council Primary School.

The training focused on self-defence drills and martial arts, physical fitness, public order management, and techniques for working effectively under pressure.

Police officials said the programme was designed to equip the officers with the necessary skills to carry out their duties professionally, safeguard voters’ rights, and maintain peace throughout the election period. The trained constables are expected to be deployed to 648 polling stations across the region.

Speaking after the pass-out ceremony, Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole said that each polling centre will be manned by two election constables and one senior police officer.

He cautioned the officers against engaging in human rights violations and urged them to uphold the discipline and professionalism instilled during their training.
