The Electoral Commission has confirmed a total of 21,681,491 registered voters for 2026 general elections.

This indicates an increase of voters by 3,577,888 from 18,103,603 registered voters recorded in 2021 to now 21,681,491 registered voters for 2026 general elections.

This has been confirmed by the chairman of the commission Justice Simon Byabakama during a press conference held at the commission’s headquarters in Kampala disclosing that that of those registered 11,347,129 representing 53% are females and 10,334,362 representing 47% are males.

Other statistical figures confirmed include 50,739 polling stations, 71,214 villages, 10,717 parishes, 2191 town councils, sub counties and municipal councils, 353 constituencies, 312 counties and 146 districts.

Byabakama appealed to all registered voters to come out and vote on the polling dates starting 15th January up to 6th February 2026.

He thus explained how they came to the 21m registered voters for the coming elections.

According to the number of registered voters per electoral commission regions, Kampala ranks number one with the highest number of registered voters which is 3,796,471 and Karamoja ranks least with 425,044 registered voters.

Byabakama also explained that their delay to release the total number of registered voters is because they were still cleaning the voters register to ensure that there is neither mistake nor double registration.
