The Chairman of the Electoral Commission Justice Simon Byabakama has condemned NRM supporters of attacking NUP supporters in Kiruhura district.
While scheduled to campaign in Kazo and Kiruhura district, NRM supporters dressed in Yellow t-shirts intercepted NUP supporters in Kiruhura district with the intention to stop the NUP presidential candidate to campaign in Kiruhura district he was forced to branch to the neighbouring district of Kazo.
Byabakama has described the incident unbecoming and illegal for any camp to intercept any candidates’ schedule which is already recorded by the Electoral Commission hence calling for restrain and avoid interfering with their work.
He also condemned tear gassing of supporters of candidates at the scheduled venue but he was hesitant to condemn the tear gassing of supporters on the road heading to the venue since he doesn’t know the security parameters that include the use of teargas and dogs on such crowds.
Byabakama also re-echoed his call to the voters to avoid interfering with the works of the Commission on the polling day.
He has also said that there is no need for voters to pitch camp at the polling station after casting their votes since every nominated candidate has got polling agents, voters are however allowed to return to the venue during the counting of votes.
Byabakama this advised those willing to dress themselves in polling jackets to protect their votes knowing that they will be arrested once they interfere in their work
