Trailer Truck Fire Paralyzes Traffic at Kampala’s Clock Tower Flyover

Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Police Spokesperson

Traffic in Kampala came to a standstill around the Clock Tower Flyover after a trailer truck caught fire, prompting a rapid response from emergency services.

The truck, registered UBG 431P / UBG 168P and operated by Iron Air Force Company, was carrying empty boxes from Mukono to Entebbe when it ignited at approximately 10:00 a.m.

The driver, Paul Gabriel Okada, reported experiencing overheating issues shortly before the fire erupted.

Teams from the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services at the Fire Brigade Headquarters responded promptly, extinguishing the flames and preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby vehicles or infrastructure.

The incident caused heavy traffic congestion, as motorists struggled to navigate the area safely, resulting in delays until the scene was cleared.

Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, confirmed that investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the fire, with initial inquiries focusing on potential mechanical faults or other contributing factors.
