32 Arrested in West Nile After Police Vehicles Damaged During NUP Campaign in Arua

Regional spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia

Police in the West Nile Region have launched a major investigation and arrested 32 suspects following incidents of malicious damage to police patrol vehicles during National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi’s campaign activities in Arua District and Arua City on 19 November 2025.

According to regional spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia, CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify individuals involved in stoning and damaging four police vehicles, registered UP-03271, UP-03346, UP-00173, and UP-7697.

The suspects, now detained at Arua Central Police Station, were apprehended after police analysts matched their appearances and actions to dashboard and city surveillance recordings.

Multiple case files for malicious damage have been opened, and scene-of-crime officers have documented the vehicles, which await official inspection by the Inspector of Motor Vehicles.

Police noted that while the campaign initially followed an agreed security plan, the candidate’s later movements drew large crowds, during which the damage occurred.

SSP Angucia confirmed that no injuries were reported and emphasized that the search for remaining suspects is ongoing.

She commended officers for exercising restraint and urged political actors and supporters to avoid confrontations and adhere to campaign guidelines to ensure public safety.
