The Director of Caritas Kampala Archdiocese Fr. John Peter Musumba has acknowledged the support extended to those in need, to live a meaningful life.
Fr. Musumba says God’s blessings come from works of mercy to your neighbour, brother or sister.
He said this during a breakfast meeting with all Charity organizations and homes under Kampala Archdiocese organised at the Caritas Kampala offices in Nsambya ahead of the celebrations of the World Day of the Poor which was started by Saint Pope John Paul 11, and serious observance of the day came in under Pope Francis in 2017 to raise awareness and provide support for the poor. It is held on the 33rd Sunday of the Church’s liturgical year, and this year it falls on November 16, 2025.
The day is dedicated to reflecting on and taking action to alleviate poverty through charity, prayer, and by ensuring the poor feel they are a cherished part of the community.
This year’s celebration is under the theme; “You are My Home”, and they gathered to deliberate on way forward on how to support people in need under the initiative doubled (CHACONET).
Annet Katende the president Good Samaritan and Prisons Ministry in Kampala Archdiocese said research within the communities gives a threatening picture given the poverty levels most families and individuals live under.
She stressed that there is need for a robust program to support Ugandans get affordable and quality healthcare, shelter, food, to make their lives better.
Among other activities on the list in their campaign to support vulnerable Ugandans are; priorities awareness programs to fight poverty, distribution of at least 2009 blankets, 1440 packets of Adult Pampers to promote health and hygiene, 110 wheelchairs, food handouts, finance and material support that has to be solicited from the general public and faith based groups.
This Charity office under Kampala Archdiocesan Caritas department headed by Patrick Njala was established to give a hand to the vulnerable which has been fulfilled through networks and fraternity that have made outreaches in the communities to change their lives.
Among the Charity homes that attended is Mapeera Baakateeyamba home, Kyasira Home of Hope, Mulago School of the Deaf, Missionaries of the Poor, Nsambya Baby’s Home, Teresa Ministries, Good Samaritan and Prisons Ministry among others.
