Cardinal Tagle from Rome tasks African Church to Evangelise Peace

Luis Cardinal Antonio Tagle from Vatican in Rome has called on the church in Africa to renew their commitment to evangelization.

Cardinal Tagle who is the Pro – Perfect for the Dicastery of Evangelization in Vatican says security and peace is attained when people treat each other as brothers and sisters as the Holy Scriptures indicate.

This was captured in a video massage relayed to the participants including seminarians from St. Mary’s National Major Seminary Ggaba, St. Mbaaga’s Major Seminary Ggaba, Rectors and formatters among others from in and outside Uganda, gathered at St Mary’s National Seminary Ggaba for a two day Pan – African Missionary Conference convened to celebrate the Jubilee 2025 and the anniversaries of Ecclesia and Evangelii Nuntiandi.

The conference held from 12th to 13th November 2025 was under the theme “Ecclesia in Africa and the Proclamation of Christ in the times of Synodality”.

In the same vain the General Secretary Pontifical Mission Union in Rome Rev. Fr. Dinh Nhue Nguyen underscored the need to strengthen small Christian Communities, promote formation and institutions responsible for grooming the future priests who are capable of reflecting on the current challenges affecting missionary work in the local churches, address issues to do with peace and justice in areas experiencing political and other related instabilities.

Meanwhile Fr Pontiano Kaweesa the Executive Secretary for Pontifical Mission Society in Uganda says that some of the objectives of the conference organized by the Pontifical Mission Union aimed at reflecting on the current challenges of the evangelizing mission with view to highlighting the hopes of the church of Christ – Family of God in Africa.

Secondary it’s to evaluate mission practice in Africa in the light of the Apostolic Exhortation Ecclesia in Africa and lastly suggest the possible ways of evangelizing mission starting from the various socio – political and cultural realities within Africa.
