Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SSP Patrick Onyango

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a major break-in at JBK Plaza on October 20, 2025, where over UGX 33 million and $26,600 were stolen from 16 shops.

Joseph Bani, alias “Young,” and Samuel Bhosa, alias “Sam,” were detained by police after they admitted to their involvement in the theft.

The suspects are currently being held at Central Police Station (CPS) Kampala on charges of shop breaking and theft.

The early-morning break-in targeted a variety of businesses within the plaza, including mobile money services, forex bureaus, and retail shops.

Police were able to identify the suspects through CCTV footage from one of the shops, G-12. The footage clearly showed the two suspects alongside Bosco Gahungu, a security guard at the building, and several other unidentified individuals participating in the crime.

Following their arrests, Bani and Bhosa provided detailed confessions, describing how they planned and carried out the robbery.

On November 3, the suspects were taken back to the crime scene for a reconstruction of the events, where they demonstrated the methods they used to break into the shops.

While significant progress has been made in the investigation, Bosco Gahungu, the security guard, and five other suspects are still at large.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SSP Patrick Onyango, expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation and reassured the public that all those involved would face justice.

He also urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
