Over 20 Dead as Coordinated Attacks Rock Rwenzori Region; Security Operations Ongoing

Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke

Security agencies continue to investigate and conduct operations in response to a series of coordinated attacks in Uganda’s Rwenzori sub-region, which left over 20 people dead and several others injured.

The attacks, which occurred over the weekend, targeted multiple areas across both Rwenzori West and Rwenzori East.

In Rwenzori West, assailants struck the districts of Bunyangabu, Bundibugyo, and Fort Portal City.

Meanwhile, in Rwenzori East, the attacks focused on Kasese district, with the Kasese Police Barracks and Rugendabara Police Station among the main targets.

Police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke confirmed that joint security operations are underway to apprehend more suspects involved in the violence.

He urged the public not to take the law into their own hands, particularly by killing suspected assailants they may capture.

Rusoke assured the public that the motives behind the attacks would be revealed once investigations are complete.

He also stated that the official figures regarding the number of suspects arrested, fatalities, and injuries would be provided after the conclusion of ongoing operations.
