The Electoral Commission (EC) has cautioned candidates against using abusive language, malice, or hate speech toward their opponents, warning that violators will face legal action.
Tolbert Musinguzi, Wakiso District Returning Officer, made the remarks during the campaign orientation meeting for Parliamentary and Wakiso District Chairperson candidates held today at the Wakiso District headquarters.
He emphasized that any candidate found engaging in offensive language or targeting opponents with malicious statements will be punished without hesitation.
Musinguzi urged candidates to focus on their manifestos and national issues, steering clear of personal attacks.
He also warned against bribery, offering gifts, condolence payments, or “amabuggo” during the campaign period, describing these acts as strictly prohibited.
Candidates were advised to maintain regular contact with their District Returning Officer’s office to address any challenges and ensure smooth campaign proceedings.
Campaigns for Parliamentary and local government leaders in Wakiso are scheduled to start on 10th November 2025.
Parliamentary candidates will conclude their campaign trail on 13th January 2026, ahead of the polling day on 15th January 2026.
