The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Jinja, Rt. Rev. Charles Martin Wamika, has died

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Jinja, Rt. Rev. Charles Martin Wamika, has died, church authorities have confirmed.

His passing was announced on Wednesday evening by the Diocesan Chancellor, Fr. Gerald Muto, who described the development as a great loss to the Church and the faithful. “It is with deep sorrow and Christian hope in the resurrection that the Diocese of Jinja announces the passing of our beloved shepherd, Rt. Rev. Charles Martin Wamika, Bishop of Jinja, who passed away today,” Fr. Muto stated.

He added that the funeral programme will be released soon and called on believers to pray for the deceased prelate.

Bishop Wamika made history as the first Ugandan to lead the Jinja Diocese, which was previously under the Mill Hill Missionaries since the late 1800s. 

He succeeded Bishop Joseph Willigers, who led the diocese for 40 years.
