46 Candidates Nominated on Day One of Kampala Parliamentary Nominations

A total of 46 candidates have been successfully nominated on the first day of parliamentary nominations in Kampala, the Electoral Commission has confirmed.

According to Rashid Hasashya, the Returning Officer for Kampala District, the nomination exercise closed peacefully at 5PM, having covered constituencies across Makindye East and West, Kawempe, Rubaga, Nakawa, and Central Division.

Hasashya thanked the media for their consistent coverage and emphasized the importance of teamwork among stakeholders to ensure a transparent and efficient electoral process.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango reported that the day’s exercise went on without major incidents.

He commended candidates and their supporters for adhering to the Electoral Commission’s guidelines and maintaining discipline throughout the process.

Onyango added that security teams had been strategically deployed to safeguard the nomination centers and prevent disruptions.

He assured the public that these measures would remain in place as the nomination exercise continues in the coming days.

The process will resume tomorrow, with more candidates expected to be nominated ahead of the 2026 general elections.
