Busiro North Member of Parliament, Hon. Paul Nsubuga, has announced that he will not contest the 2026-2031 political term as an independent candidate, following his failure to secure the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket for re-election.
Nsubuga, who currently represents Busiro North as the NUP flagbearer for the 2021-2026 term, revealed that the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming term has been given to Ronald Semaganda, leaving Nsubuga without a ticket.
Addressing the press at New Eden Gardens in Kakiri, Nsubuga shared that after extensive consultations with family, leaders, and his supporters, he had decided against running as an independent candidate.
He said his decision was to allow himself time to focus on preparing for his future.
However, Nsubuga expressed his frustration with certain party leaders, accusing them of undermining his tenure by fueling scandals that affected his reputation during his time in Parliament.
Despite stepping down from the race, Nsubuga made it clear that he would not support Semaganda, the newly endorsed NUP flagbearer.
He claimed that several party members had been responsible for his ticket denial and he could not, in good conscience, back a candidate associated with those who played a part in his political setback.
Meanwhile, Nsubuga’s decision has sparked discontent among some of his supporters, who are reportedly unhappy with his stance.
