UMU Showcases Student Innovation with Digital Voting Milestone at 31st Graduation

Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) celebrated student-led innovation during its 31st graduation ceremony on Saturday, spotlighting the university’s successful rollout of an online voting system for recent Student Union elections.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Patrick Kyamanywa lauded the initiative as a powerful example of how science, technology, and business can catalyze socio-economic transformation.

He urged Uganda’s Electoral Commission to consider adopting similar digital systems in future national elections, emphasizing the role of young innovators in shaping the country’s future.

The event also marked UMU’s 32nd anniversary and featured the largest graduating cohort in its history 2,399 students, including five Ph.D. recipients.

Prof. Kyamanywa paid tribute to His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala and recognized families with multi-generational alumni as a testament to the university’s enduring legacy and impact.

With a current student body of 6,500, he also emphasized the urgent need for investment in student accommodation, reinforcing UMU’s commitment to growth, innovation, and student-centered development.
