Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa, Chancellor of Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) and Chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, has urged graduates to view innovation as a moral calling one that goes beyond career ambition to serve humanity with integrity and compassion.
Speaking during UMU’s 31st graduation ceremony, which also marked the 61st anniversary of the canonization of the 22 Ugandan Martyrs, Bishop Zziwa called on the 2,399 graduates to become job creators and ethical leaders committed to social responsibility.
The Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese emphasized that science and technology must uphold human dignity, address real-world challenges, and promote the common good.
He encouraged graduates to pursue innovation that transforms society while remaining grounded in faith, character, and a deep sense of duty to others.
He noted that the university’s graduation theme, “Innovation for Socio-Economic Transformation,” reflects the Church’s broader vision of development rooted in justice, solidarity, and service.
Bishop Zziwa concluded by urging graduates to be courageous pioneers of hope, whose work uplifts the vulnerable and contributes to building a more just and inclusive future for all.
