High Court Orders Government to Produce Missing Kenyan Activists Dead or Alive

High Court in Kampala has directed the Government of High Court Halts Uganda Law Society AGM

The High Court in Kampala has directed the Government of Uganda to produce two missing Kenyan activists, Nicholas Oyoo and Bob Njagi, either dead or alive, following their alleged abduction after a political rally in the Busoga region.

The order stems from a habeas corpus petition filed by a team of human rights lawyers, who claim the activists were seized by individuals in both military and civilian attire after attending a rally organized by National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu.

Justice Simon Peter Kinobe issued the ruling, compelling the state to account for the whereabouts of the two men.

The petitioners allege that Oyoo and Njagi were taken to the Mbuya military facility and have since been held incommunicado, a violation of their constitutional rights.

The charge sheet lists several top security officials as respondents in the case, including the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba; the Inspector General of Police; the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security; and the Attorney General of Uganda.

Lawyers for the petitioners argue that the activists have been unlawfully detained for more than the 48 hours permitted by the Constitution without being presented before a court.

They are demanding that the state either produce the men or provide a full explanation of their status and whereabouts.

The High Court has scheduled a hearing on the matter for October 21, 2025.
