More than 52 million Ugandan shillings have been raised towards the renovation of Lubaga Cathedral, as part of the ongoing “Lamaga Yooyoota” project ahead of the cathedral’s centennial celebrations scheduled for October 26th.
The generous contributions were made by various groups and individuals, including 30 million shillings from the Tuesday Class Alumni Association, 6 million from the Association of Treasurers – Kampala Archdiocese, 5 million from the Uganda Martyrs Guild – Kampala Archdiocese, 3.6 million from Kyabakadde Parish, and 1 million from Archbishop Augustine Kasujja, among others.
Speaking on behalf of Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere, the Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Fr. Dr. Pius Male Ssentumbwe, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, noting it as a reflection of the deep love and commitment the faithful have towards their church.
He added that Archbishop Ssemogerere is pleased with the ongoing renovations and preparations for the landmark 100-year celebration of the iconic cathedral.
Meanwhile, Fr. John Mary Kibirige, patron of the Uganda Martyrs Guild – Kampala, highlighted one of the key focuses of the initiative: acquiring a sacred reliquary for the Uganda Martyrs’ Altar—an important object that has been missing from the cathedral for years.
