The Bishop of Masaka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba, has emphasized the urgent need to promote justice and peace throughout Uganda.
Speaking at the Benedicto Kiwanuka Memorial Lecture held at Pope Paul Memorial Hotel, Ndeeba, Kampala, Bishop Jjumba highlighted that these core values must first be cultivated at home.
He stressed that societal respect for justice and peace begins with nurturing leaders who learn positive values and norms within their families.
Presiding over the Mass commemorating this year’s memorial lecture, Bishop Jjumba, who also serves as Vice Chairperson of the Justice and Peace Commission of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, urged Ugandans to embrace forgiveness as a foundation for lasting peace.
Under the theme, “Forgive Us Our Sins, Grant Us Peace,” Bishop Jjumba noted that peace cannot thrive amid ongoing conflicts and enmity fueled by issues such as abductions, land grabbing, and evictions, which continue to challenge the nation.
The event, organized by the Justice and Peace Department of Kampala Archdiocese, honors the memory of Benedicto Kiwanuka, Uganda’s first Prime Minister, who was abducted and killed on 21st September 1972.
His remains have yet to be found, but his legacy continues to inspire the pursuit of justice and peace in Uganda.
