ICPAU August 2025 Exam Results Show Improved Pass Rate and Rising Female Participation in Accounting

ICPAU August 2025 Exam Results

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has announced a slight improvement in overall performance in the August 2025 examination sitting, alongside a growing dominance of female candidates in the accounting profession.

The results were revealed at an official ceremony held at the Protea Hotel by Marriott Kampala Skyz in Naguru, presided over by ICPAU President CPA Timothy David Ediomu and Chairperson of the Public Accountants Examinations Board (PAEB), CPA Nancy Amige Owino.

This event marked the final examination release under President Ediomu’s leadership before his upcoming handover later this month.

A total of 4,249 candidates sat for various qualifications, including Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Tax Advisor (CTA), and Accounting Technicians Diploma (ATD).

Notably, 57.3% of these candidates were female, continuing a positive trend of increasing female representation in Uganda’s financial sector.

Women also accounted for 56.2% of the 6,087 exam scripts submitted.

The overall pass rate rose to 36.4%, up from 31% in August 2024.

Analysis by age group revealed that candidates aged 30–34 years had the highest proportion of passes at 27.7%, followed by those aged 25–29 years at 14.9%.

PAEB Chairperson CPA Nancy Amige Owino credited the improved results to the dedication of candidates and the quality support from training institutions.

Meanwhile, ICPAU President CPA Timothy David Ediomu suggested that the ongoing election period might have contributed to some decline in performance, as qualified accountants participated in political activities, which impacted their academic focus.
