The President of Caritas Uganda, His Lordship Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba, announced that the organization successfully sponsored 380 children to attend school through its “Child Care Emergency Relief Program.”
Speaking during the launch of this year’s Sixty Thousand Annual Contribution and the 2025 Fundraising Dinner at Nsambya in Kampala, Bishop Jjumba, who also serves as the Bishop of Masaka Diocese, revealed that Caritas Uganda is targeting 10,000 contributors, each donating UGX 60,000.
This target aims to enable the organization to provide education, welfare, and support to vulnerable children and orphans across the country.
He praised the generosity of Ugandans, noting that the campaign has already transformed lives in several communities.
Beneficiaries include 372 individuals affected by the Kiteezi landfill in Kampala, 895 people displaced by floods in Kasese, and children at Nsambya Baby’s Home who received Christmas packages.
Additionally, the program has sponsored 11 children from Kotido Diocese.
Bishop Jjumba emphasized the importance of sustaining local support and described the campaign as a reflection of shared responsibility to care for vulnerable populations.
He expressed hope that with more contributors, the organization would be able to reach even more children in need.
Fr. Hilary Muhezangango, the National Director of Caritas Uganda, explained that with international donors becoming less accessible, the organization has shifted its focus toward mobilizing local support.
He noted that increasing the number of contributors would reduce the financial burden on each individual.
Fr. Muhezangango further highlighted that many children remain unable to afford tuition and require urgent assistance.
He stated that the campaign is an opportunity to cultivate a culture of giving within local communities.
The theme for this year’s campaign is inspired by Proverbs 19:17, which teaches that kindness to the poor is like lending to the Lord, who will repay such deeds.
The launch event was held at the Cardinal Nsubuga Leadership Training Center, drawing clergy, donors, and well-wishers committed to advancing the cause.
