Court Orders Defence to Submit Witness List in Suzan Magara Murder Trial

High Court Judge Alex Ajiji

High Court Judge Alex Ajiji has directed defence lawyers representing nine individuals accused of kidnapping and murdering cashier Suzan Magara to submit a full list of their witnesses and all supporting documents to the prosecution for verification.

The accused Yusufu Lubega, Hussein Wasswa, Muzamir Ssaali, Hassan Kato Miiro, Abas Buwembo, Mahad Kisalita, Abubaker Kyewolwa, Ismael Bukenya, and Hajjarah Nakandi are facing charges related to the kidnap and murder allegedly committed on February 7, 2018.

According to the prosecution, the group abducted Magara from her home in Lungujja, Kampala, and later demanded a ransom of UGX 700 million from her family.

Despite receiving the money on February 24, 2018, they allegedly killed her and dumped her body in Mutungo, Wakiso District.

During the recent court session, one of the accused, Hussein Wasswa, claimed he was tortured during interrogation.

He told the court he was held in a dark room for over five hours, force-fed pork against his Muslim beliefs, and injected with unidentified substances.

He also alleged he was accused of terrorism and financing terrorist activities.

Wasswa further stated that he was detained alongside other Muslim suspects, including his co-accused brother, Hassan Kato Miiro.

He insisted that he was a minor at the time of his arrest, and presented documents to support this claim.

However, the prosecution requested more time to verify the documents.

In response to these developments, Judge Ajiji instructed the defense team to provide all relevant documentation and a complete list of intended witnesses to the prosecution in advance of the next court appearance.

The case has been adjourned to October 2nd for further hearing.
