Centenary Bank Donates UGX 86 Million to Support Kampala City Festival and Environmental Campaign

Centenary Bank Donates UGX 86 Million to KCCA

Centenary Bank has committed UGX 86 million towards the upcoming Kampala City Festival, scheduled for October 5, 2025.

The festival, organized by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), is one of Uganda’s largest cultural and social events, attracting thousands of local and international visitors.

It serves as a vibrant platform to showcase Kampala’s music, art, dance, and cuisine, while also creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs and businesses to thrive.

During a handover ceremony at Mapeera House, Centenary Bank Assistant Executive Director Joseph Kiwanuka Balikudembe presented a dummy cheque to KCCA Executive Director Hajjati Sharifa Buzeki.

Balikudembe highlighted that for over 40 years, the bank has been committed to transforming lives, not only through financial services but also through corporate social responsibility initiatives that uplift communities.

Each year, Centenary Bank dedicates 2% of its previous year’s profits to projects focused on health, education, waste management, environmental conservation, and other community development efforts.

Balikudembe explained that UGX 50 million of the donation will support the organization of the Kampala City Festival, while UGX 36 million will fund the “Weyonje” campaign aimed at keeping Kampala clean and protecting the environment.

He noted that a thriving city is essential for economic growth, and tackling challenges such as waste management is key to creating a conducive environment where businesses and communities can prosper.

In response, ED Buzeki welcomed Centenary Bank’s generous contribution, emphasizing the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving the city’s development goals.

She added, “Kampala belongs to everyone, and keeping it vibrant, clean, and inclusive requires collective effort. We thank Centenary Bank for demonstrating leadership in corporate citizenship through this support.”

The Kampala City Festival promises to be a dynamic celebration of the city’s culture and a catalyst for community engagement and economic opportunity.
