Museveni and Mafabi Submit Presidential Bid Signatures Ahead of 2025 Nominations

NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer, and Nathan Nandala Mafabi, representing the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), have submitted their endorsement signatures to the Electoral Commission (EC) as part of the official requirements for the 2025 presidential nominations.

The NRM delegation, led by Secretary General Richard Todwong, marched in a procession from the party headquarters in Kyadondo to the EC offices, accompanied by supporters.

They submitted over 2 million signatures, drawn from more than 98 districts, with at least 100 signatures from each district.

Speaking to the press after the submission, Todwong confirmed that Museveni’s official nomination is scheduled for September 23, calling on NRM supporters nationwide to prepare for the upcoming campaign period.

Meanwhile, the FDC team, led by the party’s Vice President for the Western Region, Robert Centenary, and Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda, submitted over 1 million signatures in support of Nathan Nandala Mafabi’s candidacy.

Centenary raised concerns about potential voter disenfranchisement, citing challenges faced by some supporters in acquiring or verifying their National Identification Numbers (NINs), a critical requirement in the nomination process.

So far, over 10 presidential aspirants have submitted the required signatures, with the process expected to continue until nomination day.
