The Uganda Police have issued strict security and traffic guidelines to all aspiring candidates as the Electoral Commission prepares to begin the nomination process for the 2025/2026 General Elections.

The nomination exercise is scheduled to commence this week, starting on Wednesday, 3rd September, and running through to Friday, 5th September.

It will kick off with candidates vying for Local Government elective positions, including District Chairpersons, District Councilors, City Mayors, and their respective Councilors.

While addressing the weekly security press briefing at Police Headquarters in Naguru, Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke emphasized that all candidates must strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission concerning the nomination process.

He also underscored the importance of adhering to traffic regulations throughout the nomination period to ensure public safety and order.

Kituuma issued a stern warning to candidates against mobilizing gangs or unruly groups to escort them to nomination centers, stating that such actions would not be tolerated and could lead to legal consequences.

As the country enters the electoral season, authorities have urged all stakeholders to prioritize peace, discipline, and respect for the rule of law.
