Police have arrested 12 individuals allegedly involved in the sale of counterfeit tickets ahead of today’s CHAN 2024 group stage match between Uganda Cranes and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
Addressing journalists at the Police headquarters in Naguru this morning, Police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke confirmed that the suspects were caught selling fake tickets to fans attempting to access Namboole Stadium.
Uganda’s national football team, the Cranes, will take on South Africa’s Bafana Bafana tonight at 8:00 PM in their final group stage encounter at Namboole.
Rusoke cautioned the public against buying forged tickets, warning that anyone found in possession of one will face arrest.
He stressed that tickets should only be bought online through authorized platforms to ensure authenticity.
He further advised fans not to drive to the stadium unless they hold VIP or VVIP tickets accompanied by valid car stickers.
Vehicles without proper identification will not be granted access and risk being towed if parked along the Jinja Highway or Northern Bypass.
In addition, Rusoke announced that large bags and certain personal items will not be allowed inside the stadium for security reasons.
He urged fans to arrive early, as gates will open at 3:00 PM, to avoid crowding and potential stampedes.
