NUP Adjusts Vetting Dates for Parliamentary Candidates

The Election Management Committee (EMC) of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has revised the vetting schedule for its Parliamentary candidates.

Originally planned for August 20th to 27th, 2025, the vetting will now take place from September 15th to 21st, 2025.

According to the new schedule, nominations will begin on Wednesday, September 15th, 2025, and run through September 21st at the party headquarters in Kavule, Kampala.

While addressing journalists at the party headquarters, EMC chairperson Harriet Chemutia said the adjustments were prompted by frequent and abrupt changes to the national electoral roadmap by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Chemutia criticized EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama, accusing him of acting unilaterally and irresponsibly by altering the electoral calendar without consulting key stakeholders.

Despite the disruptions, Chemutia urged aspiring candidates to remain calm, assuring them that the EMC is working diligently to ensure a fair and enabling environment for all contenders.

Meanwhile, the party is currently vetting candidates for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Mayoral and City Division Mayoral positions.

Among the aspirants is Bosco Lusagala, a candidate for Makindye Division Mayor, who has pledged to prioritize improvements in health and education within the division.
