The Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, today received a donation of sixty million Ugandan shillings from the faithful of Wakiso Vicariate.
The contribution is part of the ongoing fundraising drive ahead of the centenary celebrations for Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Lubaga.
Priests and lay faithful from Wakiso Vicariate made a pilgrimage to Lubaga Cathedral, where they officially handed over the donation to the Archbishop.
The delegation was led by the Episcopal Vicar, Rev. Fr. Jude Makanga, in support of the fundraising campaign dubbed “Lubaga Yooyoota”.
This initiative was launched by Archbishop Ssemogerere to help finance the refurbishment of the cathedral in preparation for its 100-year celebration, scheduled for October 26, 2025.
In his address, Archbishop Ssemogerere praised the zeal and courage of those who originally designed and constructed the cathedral, acknowledging their lasting legacy.
Rev. Fr. Makanga, who led representatives from seventeen parishes, reaffirmed the Vicariate’s commitment to supporting ongoing efforts to restore and beautify the cathedral ahead of the landmark celebration.
The centenary celebration will coincide with the Archdiocesan Day on October 26, 2025, under the theme: “The Temple of God is Holy, and You Are That Temple.”
