A serious road accident in Lusera Village along the Kasawo–Natonto road has left 17 people injured, prompting an investigation by the Naggalama Police Division.
The crash occurred on Tuesday evening at around 5:30 p.m. and involved a white Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UAY 514M.
The vehicle was reportedly returning from a campaign event in Kasawo Subcounty when the driver lost control in a swampy area. The truck veered off the road, throwing several passengers out before becoming stuck in the mud.
The injured include both young children and elderly residents. Identified victims are Jenatia Ssebufu, 20, from Kisawe; Abudhala Mugoya and six-year-old Akim Odoi, both from Kasawo; Faziah Nakintu, 23, from Kabimbiri; and Juliet Bilabwa, 24, also from Kasawo. Other victims include Sadati Mujoni, 15; Irene Namaganda, 25; Justine Nantale, 39; Jaliay Nakanjako, 44; and Nakagwa Kisakye, 25—all from Kasawo.
Additional injured passengers are Specioza Nagawa, 40, from Seta Namuganga; Lubowa Yusuf, 20; Kanamwanje John, 66; and Alex H (43).
Three other victims remain unidentified and are currently receiving treatment at Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital.
Police have confirmed that the truck driver fled the scene and remains unidentified. Investigations are ongoing.
