The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has refuted claims that party tickets for flag bearers have already been issued ahead of the 2026 general elections.
According to the party’s assistant spokesperson, Waiswa Mufumbiro, the vetting process is still ongoing and no official endorsements have been made.
Mufumbiro urged the public to disregard the rumors, stressing that NUP remains committed to a transparent and fair selection process.
He further noted that the vetting exercise, which began in July, is still within the timeframe set by the National Electoral Commission.
The vetting process aims to identify the most qualified and credible candidates with strong grassroots support.
Mufumbiro assured that party tickets will only be awarded after the process is fully completed.
Among those vetted today was Councillor Robert Wasswa Ssebunya of Mutundwe Kanala Cell, who expressed firm loyalty to the party but stated he would not run as an independent candidate if denied the NUP ticket.
