The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially named Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi as its presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections.
This announcement follows the withdrawal of his rival, Patrick Amuriat Oboi, from the race, leaving Mafabi as the sole contender for the party’s top ticket.
The decision was made following a key meeting held at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi, where party leaders convened to finalize the selection of their flag bearer.
The delegates’ conference that was initially scheduled for tomorrow has been canceled.
Instead, a special leadership meeting is planned for next month to discuss the party’s roadmap toward the 2026 polls.
Speaking to the press, Patrick Amuriat praised the FDC’s internal democratic process, saying it sets the party apart from others in Uganda.
He announced his decision to withdraw from the presidential contest and pledged his full support for Mafabi.
Mafabi expressed gratitude to Amuriat for his statesmanship and acknowledged his valuable contributions to the party over the years.
FDC party chairman Jack Sabiiti explained that while the final endorsement was initially planned for the upcoming delegates’ conference, the leadership saw it fit to confirm Mafabi’s candidacy following Amuriat’s withdrawal.
The party’s Electoral Commission Chairperson, Tuterebuka Bamwenda, later made the official declaration, confirming Nandala Mafabi as the FDC’s presidential candidate for the 2026 elections.
